Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and vice-patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), gave a thumbs-up to India’s preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games here Sunday. Edward, who is here to attend Monday’s CGF General Assembly, went around the city to inspect various venues and the Games Village being constructed for the mega event. The Games take place Oct 3-14 next year.
He was accompanied with Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the organising committee. A statement from the organising committee said: “Edward showed satisfaction at the infrastructure being developed in Delhi. He was particularly keen to know details about the Queen’s Baton Relay that will be launched by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace on October 29.”
While visiting the Thyagaraj Stadium, Edward asked about an entrance that has been created for vehicles to access the playing area and was happy that it had been designed to allow ambulances to have easy access to transport injured athletes. He also spent a long time at the National Stadium where the cricket World Cup will be played in March.
