Indian cricket team to don new ODI dress

On the eve of their departure to New Zealand, Indian cricket team got a new dress in a darker shade of blue for one-day internationals. The Indian cricket board’s official kit sponsor Nike unveiled the new jersey here with Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma and Rohit Sharma. The new kit was developed after extensive research by designers and has been put through rigorous tests at the Nike Sports Research Laboratory.

”Nike’s new ODI kit, with its technology features and bolder colours, is testament to this change in this great sport in our country. We wish our teams’ greater success in the coming seasons,” said Indian cricket board secretary N. Srinivasan. The current kit will be the team’s alternate dress.

Umpires Harper, Koertzen give thumbs-up to challenge system

Two senior umpires from the world of cricket namely, Rudi Koertzen and Daryl Harper have given the thumbs-up to players challenging their decisions saying that the ’review system’ helps to cut down the errors. ”The objective of the review system is to eliminate the obvious errors. Inevitably, there will still be decisions  that people will argue  are wrong but that is not really the point of the system.

Hayden to get a grand farewell

Australian opener Matthew Hayden denied himself a worthy farewell after suddenly announcing his retirement last month. But recently, the burly Queenslander had been given one last hurrah in front of a packed house at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Hayden teamed up with his former team mates Steve Waugh, Mark Taylor and Glenn McGrath during the recent Twenty20 extravaganza at the SCG to raise funds for the Bushfires Appeal.

ICC concerned about 2011 World Cup venues in Pakistan

In the midst of political turmoil in Pakistan, International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked the organisers of the 2011 World Cup to look for alternate venues in the country and if the situation worsens also outside strife-torn Pakistan. After the meeting of the 2011 World Cup Central Organising  Committee, ICC chief-executive Haroon Lorgat said that the situation in Pakistan was of prime importance for the world body.

Trescothick willing to come out of retirement

England batsman Marcus Trescothick may come out of his retirement if selectors give him a chance to play in the final Ashes Test at The Oval. Trescothick said that he can play in the last match if it was just a one-off appearance. “No one has spoken to me or said anything to me on the issue. If I was asked, I don’t know. I’m retired. I’m done. If they threw questions at me, I would listen. But until they do I can’t answer,” said Trescothick.

Saeed Anwar in line to be new Pakistan cricket coach

Former Pakistan Test batsman Saeed Anwar has emerged as a candidate to take over as the national team’s new coach. Anwar, a flamboyant left-handed batsman, Wednesday had a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt in Lahore - a development that fuelled speculations that he might be appointed as Pakistan’s new coach, replacing Intikhab Alam following a disastrous tour of Sri Lanka.

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden is set to become a member of the Board of Cricket Australia (CA), replacing former captain Allan Border who stepped down after seven years of working. “I am also delighted to welcome Matt Hayden on board. Five England players, who were part of the miserable innings defeat in the fourth Ashes cricket Test against Australia at Headingley, have been asked to go back and play for their counties to rediscover their form before the series decider at the Oval. England batsmen Ravi Bopara, his Essex colleague Alastair Cook, Ian Bell of Warwickshire and bowlers Nottighmashire’s Graham Swan and Durham’s Graham Onions have been released by the England team management .
