The hustle bustle in the Lajpat Nagar market on a Sunday afternoon is not an abnormal sight but this week it was a little special . A man was balancing a huge pile of colourfully wrapped boxes and putting them in his car , a group of giggling girls were seen relaxing with huge shopping bags by having lemon soda and a couple was busy buying utensils from a crockery shop. Diwali , the festival of lights is fast approaching and all the signs of the festival were very much visible in the market .

Rajasthan High Court stays Gujjar quota

The Rajasthan High Court has stayed the job and educational quota provided to the Gujjars and economically backward classes (EBCs) in the state and issued a notice to the government to state why it should not be scrapped. Taking cognizance of a letter of some students, the division bench of Chief Justice Jagdish Bhalla and Justice M.N. Bhandari Monday stayed the reservation as it exceeded the overall 50 percent limit fixed for reservations.

Madhya Pradesh tribals protest inaction on drought

Thousands of tribals, including a large number of women and children, held a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district Tuesday alleging inaction by the central and state governments on drought and high food prices. The tribals, who were protesting under the aegis of Jagrit Adivasi Dalit Sangathan, said the rich and the corporate sector were being pampered with tax subsidies while they were being left to die of hunger.
