Green Jobs

Green Jobs

The title of an article about green jobs on Forbes.com aptly describes the current scenario in one phrase – “For the job market, Green means Growth”. A global transition to a low-carbon and sustainable economy will create large numbers of green jobs across many sectors of the economy and can indeed become an engine of sustainable development. Climate change is creating millions of “green jobs” in sectors from solar power to biofuels that will slightly exceed layoffs elsewhere in the economy, according to a U.N. report.

World’s oceans changing in irreversible ways

World’s oceans changing in irreversible ways

There is mounting evidence that human activity is changing the world’s oceans in profound and irreversible ways. For instance, “the climate is currently warming faster than the worst case known from the fossil record, about 56 million years ago, when temperatures rose about six degrees over 1,000 years.” “If emissions continue it is not unreasonable to expect warming of 5.5 degrees by the end of this century,” says the latest study.

Solar activity and climate dynamics

Solar activity and climate dynamics

A high in solar activity impacts the earth in a way that resembles the devastating El Nino, releasing more energy than a million Hiroshima bombs, according to a new study. The study shows that as the sun reaches maximum activity, it heats cloud-free parts of the Pacific Ocean enough to increase evaporation, intensify tropical rainfall and the trade winds, and cool the eastern tropical Pacific.
