Ropeway behind Taj for tourism development

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has opposed a plan for a ropeway behind the Taj Mahal, drawn up by the Agra Development Authority apparently without seeking clearance from the ASI or the Supreme Court, which has laid out clear-cut guidelines for preserving the surroundings of the heritage monument. A series of preliminary studies and surveys by experts of the Usha Breco group, roped in by the ADA for the project, have already been carried out.

Chinese archaeologists are preparing for another excavation at the famous terracotta army site, hoping to find more clay figures and unravel some of the mysteries left behind by the “First Emperor”. Delhi has put a step forward to bag Unesco World Heritage City status, like London, Rome, and Jerusalem. Unexpected prehistoric cave art discovered

Deepak Anand, a young explorer says he has discovered prehistoric cave art in Bihar’s Rajgir hills that are known for their Buddhist heritage and has asked the Archaelogical Survey of India (ASI) to validate his claim. “We have found cave art of the prehistoric age in the dense forest of Rajgir hills. The discovery is of immense importance,” said Anand, associated with Nav Nalanda Mahavihara, a Nalanda-based deemed university.

Low flights threatening monument

Vibrations from the low flying aircrafts over the Qutub Minar, could endanger the 72.5 meter 12th century red sandstone monument, which is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the national capital. Agra calls for heritage city status

Several citizens' groups have asked candidates of various political parties to support their demand for heritage city status to Agra visited by millions of tourists every year.

As the city celebrated World Heritage Day recently, questions have also been raised about the poor conservation efforts and the failure of authorities to rid the three World Heritage monuments (the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri) of ugly encroachments.
